Song of the Setting Sun was written for my good friend, Irina Rostomashvili. She approached me and asked me to write a piece for her graduation recital at Temple University. To get the story for the piece, I interviewed her, and the idea that came forward was a story of love. "Song of the Setting Sun" depicts that story, from sultry anticipation to a tango of passion and concluding with nostalgic reflection. This is my first piece for violin and cello, and it remains one of my favorite pieces to play with Irina and other artists."Song of the Setting Sun" is my first duet for Violin and Violoncello. I composed it for the graduation recital of Irina Rostomashvili (at Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance), who took this piece to the next level.
